Pair of "Niagara" Walnut Armchairs by Maurice Dufrène

Pair of "Niagara" walnut armchairs by Maurice Dufrène with stepped front uprights forming a waterfall motif, grooved laterally with stems and scrolls This pair of "Niagara" armchairs, designed by Maurice Dufrène (1876–1955) circa 1929, is one of the emblematic models of French interwar furniture. The stepped front uprights, evoking a stylized waterfall, as well as the lateral grooves adorned with stems and scrolls, reflect the search for a subtle balance between decoration and structure, typical of Art Deco at its height.
