Important Empire Mahogany Console Attributed to Jacob Frères
Important Empire Mahogany Console Attributed to Jacob Frères. with frieze with griffins, foliate scrolls, bosses and palmettes on tapering turned legs headed by winged bronze masks.France:circa 1810 Provenance: B & L Wahlström, Stockholm. previously from the Ströms slott is a manor house in the parish of Hjärtum in the municipality of Lilla Edet The estate remained in the Evers family until 1893 when the business went bankrupt and Ström was sold on in a couple of rounds, including in the 1940s to Ströms Trämasse Fabriks aktiebolag (later Inlands Pappersbruk ). The castle was then allowed to function as official residences and manager's residence for the mill until the 1980s. Inlands Pappersbruk divided the estate into smaller farms in 1913–1916 and sold these to around twenty home builders. Until this time, Ström's estate was the largest landed property in Bohus County. The owners included land areas from Hisingen in the south to the Norwegian border in the north. The mill sold Ström to the municipality of Lilla Edets in 1984. The municipality divided the buildings for resale, but kept most of the park and garden. The then owner began an extensive renovation to use the building for conference and restaurant operations, but had financial problems and the company was declared bankrupt in 1990 and was then sold to Thorsten Sennton. Restaurant operations resumed in 1995, but Ström was sold again at executive auction in 2005 to new owners who only two years later in 2007 sold on to current owners Henrik and Magnus Olsson. Today, the owners have refurnished the then run-down manor house environment, which had been empty, unheated and exposed to vandalism for several years. The manor is used for, among other things, pre-school activities, rental apartments and as a venue for various conferences.
