Important Parchment Covered and Black Lacquered Wood Cabinet/Enfilade by Paul Dupre Lafon
Important black lacquered wood, goatskin and red leather covered credenza by Paul Dupré Lafon, the front and sides decorated with bronze mouldings and drawer pulls. Glass and bronze drop front center vitrine with fitted with a beautiful red interior. Double drawers to each side over a set of four doors . Resting on a limed oak square base fitted with bronze mounts. France: circa 1950 Reference: p: 10-11, 86,98,141,147,193 196 for similar models in Dupré Lafon décorateur des millionnaires par Thierry Couvrat Desvergnes Éditions de L'amateur Provenance: Private collection Palm Beach Florida , property designed and decorated by Peter Marino Architect for George Lindemann, see the cabinet in situ in the last photo). Paul Dupré-Lafon trained as an architect but worked primarily as an interior designer. Originally from Marseille, it took him only five years to establish himself in Paris and by the late 1920s he was creating entire interiors for wealthy clientèle including the bankers Dreyfus and Rothschild. He has been described as ‘décorateur des millionaires’ (a designer for the billionaires) (T. Couvrat-Desvergnes, Paul Dupré-Lafon, Décorateur des Millionnaires, Paris, 1990) and for forty years worked as such. He was a reserved man preferring not to show his designs in exhibitions, but instead concentrating all his energy on his projects. His furniture combined the functionality of modernist design with the luxury of art deco. It was critical to Dupré-Lafon that his furniture should not only be works of art but also should serve its users and be practical. Creating impressive forms that communicate a sense of power and grandeur through their simplicity, curves and angles filled him with fascination. The present cabinet illustrates Dupré-Lafon’s skills, uniting function with aesthetic qualities.

Glass Blue and Green Fasce Verticali Bottle by Fulvio Bianconi for Venini
Blue and Green Striped "fasce verticali" glass bottle by Fulvio Bianconi for Venini .Three line acid stamp to underside 'Venini Murano Italia'. Italy: circa 1950. Literature: p. 296 Venini catalogue raisonné 1921-1986 par Anna Venini Diaz de Santillana éditions Skira. Bianconi’s real contribution to the world of art and design, however, finds its inception in 1947 when the Milanese Paulo Venini commissioned a series of perfume bottles from the illustrator, beginning the artist’s career as a freelance glasswork designer (Ricke 22). Unimpeded by the restrictions of the glass artisan’s principles of design and financially independent due to his work as a graphic designer, Bianconi was free to experiment with the formal qualities and potentials of glass as a fluid and organic medium. His earliest freelance work for Venini, which he not only designed but also cut and ground himself in order to become familiar with the medium, engages in a spontaneous aesthetic that intentionally and ironically protests against traditional values of perfect craftsmanship (Ricke 23). Throughout the late 1940’s and 1950’s, Bianconi brought a theatrical and humorous sensibility to his glasswork design that was born both from his personal roots in cartooning and caricature as well as a more general atmosphere of creative experimentation enjoyed by a post-Fascist Italy

Cast Stone Sculpture of Nude with Cat by William Zorach
Cast stone Sculpture of Nude with Cat by William Zorach Incised signature near base '©WZ Zorach William Zorach' with publisher's mark. This work is from the edition published by Robinson Galleries, New York. USA : circa 1940 Zorach is a classic American success story. He emigrated from Lithuania to the United States as a young child and studied art in New York, and then Paris in the early 1900s. He was regarded as a founder of the early American modernist movement, first as a painter painting in a Fauvist and later a Cubist style. Whatever his success as an oil painter, Bill found that he was more drawn to sculpting and to painting with watercolors. He taught himself to sculpt, not only modeling works but also developing the kind of sculpture style known as direct carving. His work can be found in public installations and in the permanent collections of both preeminent and smaller museums throughout the country.

Polychrome Screen print "Romanesque" by Josef Zenk
Polychrome Screen print "Romanesque" by Josef Zenk Signed, titled and numbered to lower edge ‘Romanesque 1/24 Zenk’. This work is number 1 from the edition of 24. Zenk studied for three years at the National Academy of Design, followed by further studies at the Art Students League in New York. In 1927 and 1928, organized exhibitions with many of the leading American painters, including Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler, and Ernest Fiene. In 1930 he was granted a full scholarship to study at the Munson Williams Proctor Institute in Utica, While there, an exhibition of his work produced the greatest attendance of any show at the institution of that year. In 1942, “Zuni” by Zenk became the first work purchased by the Munson Williams Proctor Institute for its Central New York Artists Collection. Along with Louis Schanker, a prominent woodcut artist and teacher at the New School, Zenk and a small group of printmakers formed “Studio 74” for the purpose of exhibiting their color woodblock prints. The group received immediate critical attention. The New York Times described the work of Josef Zenk as “particularly admirable”. One of his prints, “The Kiss”, was chosen in 1949 as one of the “best prints of the year” and was exhibited in the National Exhibition of Prints held at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. Josef Zenk’s works have been shown in over twenty-seven museums, including the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Newark Museum, the Seattle Museum of Art, and the National Academy of Design. Through the many exhibitions during his career, Zenk progressed from stylized realism in landscape and figurative painting to a powerful modernist and abstract style
